FAQ’s

Do you have lockers?
Yes. We have monitored lockers of various sizes in the front lounge. Bring your own lock, or rent one at the front desk for a minimal fee.

Is there a way to check-in after the Front Desk closes at night?
Yes. We offer contactless Self-Check-In arranged in advance.

Is there a way to check-in before the posted Check-in hours? “My flight lands at 9 AM.  I would like to see the city.”
Yes. You can drop off your luggage, complete the check-in process, get your room assignment and the front door entry code. use the restroom, lounges, kitchen and wifi.  However, you may not be able to access your room until the housekeeping staff has completed their work.

How long can I stay at Site 61? 
We currently require a minimum stay of 2 nights.  You can make an initial reservation of up to 14 days.  We are offering a weekly discount of 15%,  when you book directly through us.  You must have a permanent address on file.

How many people can occupy a private room? 
The room or bed descriptions indicate the number of guests who are included in the rate.  You may be able to book additional persons in the larger private rooms.  Contact the hostel for  more information.

When is check-out? 
Check-out is 11 AM.  Sorry, we do not offer Late Check-Out.

Do you have parking?
Free public street parking is available both in front of the building and at the side, with security camera coverage.  Bicycles can be secured inside the gated patio.

Do I have to have a student ID?
You do not have to have a student ID. You will, however, need a current ID for identification. 

Do you require prepayment to confirm the reservation? 
The first night’s rate, plus taxes, will be charged at the time, or soon after, the reservation is made.

What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel or modify your reservation free of charge two full days in advance of your arrival.   Reservations cancelled or modified less than two days in advance will be charged the amount of the first night.

Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit. However, all persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must reserve a private room.

Can I request a lower bunk?
Please be aware that most of the rooms are upstairs.  We do not assign bunks and cannot guarantee that you will be sleeping in a lower bunk.  You will be expected to schlep your own luggage upstairs.

Do you allow pets or service animals?
Pets are not allowed. If you have a service animal you will need to book a private room, let the hostel know at least two days in advance, and give the Manager the opportunity to observe the behavior of the dog before confirming the reservation.

Do you  have private bathrooms? 
If your reservation is for an ensuite room, you will have a bathroom attached to the room.  Or you may reserve one of the full bathrooms down the hall for an additional fee.. 

Can I bring a friend inside the hostel?
Only registered guests are allowed upstairs or into rooms. Unregistered guests may be permitted in the downstairs common areas outside of quiet hour times, ONLY with the on-duty manager’s knowledge and approval. 

Can I store some extra items inside my room?
Furniture and/or household goods belonging to guests can not be moved into the building.

Is there a curfew?
You will have 24/7 access to the hostel. However, there is only one way in and out of the building and security cameras monitor all coming and going. We have quiet hours from 11PM to 7AM on weekdays and 12AM to 7AM on weekends.

Is the area safe?
Our property is completely fenced and security cameras watch the public areas both inside and outside the hostel. However, as in every large city, you have to keep your eyes open and your wits about you.

How safe is your building?
The building was completely renovated in 2014.  It is protected by a sprinkler system, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors.  A professional company monitors the system 24/7. 

How far are you from Bourbon St.?
We are located in Mid-City New Orleans, on the Tulane Ave. bus line to Canal St. and just a few blocks from the Canal Streetcar.  The French Quarter is about 2.6 miles from the hostel.  

How far are you from the Superdome and the Smoothie King Center?   The Tulane Ave bus across the street from the hostel will take you to within a 3-4  blocks of these venues.  

What is public transportation like in New Orleans?   Bus and Streetcar service is very economical–$1.25 one way and $3.00 for a 24-hour pass.  Feel free to visit our “getting around” page to see a map with many of the easily accessible bus routes near our hostel. 

Do you have free internet access? Yes, the internet service is free and not restricted, except for illegal activity such as “peer to peer” file sharing of copyrighted material.  Your device will be blocked from our network for violation of this rule.

What is your policy, if a guest gets sick?
 We ask for Emergency Contact information at Check-in.  We will contact your designated person to help arrange for you to move to a more comfortable location.  In the event of serious illness or injury, the unused portion of the reservation will be refunded.

In addition, if a guest or their invitees are judged by a Manager, to be acting with disregard for the health and safety of Site 61’s guests or staff,  the guest may be asked to leave the premises and may not receive a refund.

Why do you have a “No Locals” policy?  
We are oriented toward being a “travelers” or “vacationers” facility, where travelers from around  the world can meet and share information about other countries, cultures, travel routes, transportation, and lodging.  We may regard someone who lives at least 35 miles from New Orleans, as a non-resident of the city.
